R. Scott Greer, as managing director of Numenor Ventures, LLC, is a private investor in and consultant to the life sciences industry with over 35 years experience. Mr. Greer has made direct investments in over 25 healthcare, technology, and consumer product companies. He was a founder of Abgenix, Inc., a publicly traded biotechnology company focused on developing and commercializing human antibody based therapeutics, serving as its Chief Executive Officer from its inception in 1996 through 2002 and as its Chairman of the Board from 2000 until 2006. In 2006, Abgenix was acquired by Amgen, Inc. (Nasdaq: AMGN) for approximately $2.2 billion. Mr. Greer was an investor in and Chairman of the Board of Sirna Therapeutics, a publicly traded biotechnology company that was sold to Merck for $1.1 billion in 2007. He was a director of and investor in Auspex Pharmaceuticals, a publicly traded specialty pharmaceuticals company, that was sold to Teva Pharmaceuticals for $3.5 billion in 2015.

Prior to forming Abgenix, Mr. Greer spent five years at Cell Genesys, Inc., a publicly traded biotechnology company, initially as Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Corporate Development through its early development and initial public offering, and later as Senior Vice President of Corporate Development. Mr. Greer also held various positions at Genetics Institute, Inc., (acquired by American Home Products, Inc.).

Mr. Greer is currently a director of several public biopharmaceutical and medical device companies including: Nektar Therapeutics (Nasdaq: NKTR), Versartis, Inc (Nasdaq: VSAR), Inogen, Inc. (Nasdaq: INGN), and Sientra, Inc. (Nasdaq: SIEN). He is also Chairman of the Board of Calimmune, Inc., a private gene therapy company. In the past he was a director of Illumina, Inc. (Nasdaq: ILMN), CV Therapeutics, Inc. (Nasdaq: CVTX), StemCells, Inc. (Nasdaq: STEM), Affymax, Inc. (Nasdaq: AFFY), Auspex, Inc. (Nasdaq: ASPX), BAROnova, Inc., Chimeros, Inc., and Anaptys BioScience, Inc. He also served as Chairman of the Board of Inogen, Inc. and Ablexis, Inc.

Mr. Greer has a B.A. in economics from Whitman College and an M.B.A. from Harvard University. Prior to attending business school, Mr. Greer was an auditor with Coopers & Lybrand (now Pricewaterhouse Coopers, LLC) and was a certified public accountant. In 2000, Mr. Greer was honored as the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year (Northern California Life Sciences).

Mr. Greer served on the board of the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum from 2003-2006.

With more than 24 years of leadership experience in both Fortune 500 and start-up companies, Michelle Greer brings to each engagement keen insight, new ways of thinking, and a global perspective on issues rooted in real business needs. Her background spans across high tech to retail and lifestyle industries, where she has integrated business planning, talent and performance management, compensation strategies, and executive development into on-going organizational processes among multiple enterprises.

Michelle also has significant experience working with management teams of entrepreneurial companies, both in very early and more mature phases of the business.

Michelle has partnered with and coached successful CEO’s, CFO’s, and other executives to become even better at what they do, working with them to increase profitability through reducing costs, growing revenue, and getting the best out of their people.

Michelle also served on the boards of early-phase start-up companies and non-profits, where she has focused on advising executives on leadership, operational, and management issues.

Michelle served for six years as the Vice-President of Human Resources for SkyStream Networks in Sunnyvale, CA, where she built the entire HR function including compensation and benefits programs, executive compensation, stock programs, employee relations policies, management development, staffing processes, and organizational effectiveness. She worked with the executive team to consciously develop a culture and value system. She did extensive management and executive coaching in every area of the organization, attended all board meetings, and frequently presented to the Board. She also worked for 11 years at Agilent Technologies and the Hewlett Packard Company in several internal leadership roles, including Group HR manager, Santa Clara Site HR Manager, and Corporate Staffing manager.

She is a seasoned veteran of volatile business cycles. During the technology meltdown of 2001, for example, Michelle initiated and led workforce balancing programs which resulted in a company that not only survived but thrived through the downturn and retained key leaders and top employees while maintaining business goals.

Michelle is certified in the Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator, the Emotional Intelligence Inventory (EQi), and the PDI Profilor. She earned a masters degree in Counseling and Consulting Psychology from Harvard University and a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Whitman College.
